On May 28, the ICC Cricket Committee Chairman Anil Kumble shared his views in regard to the future of IPL 2020. He shared the views by stating that he is optimistic about the tournament being played later this year.

With the exchange of words held with the cabinet in Board of Control for Cricket of India (BCCI) that the 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) has been postponed for an indefinite period. But looking towards the amount of money that is at stake if the booming tournament is canceled. There’s a high possibility that the tournament is going to be played later this year. With the words shared the ICC Cricket CommitteeChairman Anil Kumble opined with an optimistic answer about the tournament being played this 2020 with some changes.
“Yes, we are hopeful and optimistic that there is still a possibility if we can cram in the schedule. If we are going to have a stadium without spectators, then probably have 3 or 4 venues; there’s still a possibility, we are all optimistic,” he said on Star Sports’ show, Cricket Connected. As India is still struggling to tighten its grip on the positive cases of Coronavirus, if the matches got scheduled, it will get played behind the closed doors.
VVS Lakshman, a Veteran Indian batsman, and mentor of IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad also stated the fact that the IPL has to be played at 3 or 4 venues, as traveling will be the biggest challenge during the ongoing crisis.
“Absolutely, and also make sure that all the stakeholders have a say. Anil (Kumble) mentioned that you can have two or four venues, I still feel that you should identify one venue, which probably has 3 or 4 grounds; if at all you find that kind of a venue because travel is again going to be quite challenging. You don’t know who’s going to be where at the airports so that I’m sure the franchises and the BCCI will be looking into,” the Hyderabadi cricketer said.
IPL can be a Great Fit
In the early stages, it was supposed that the 13 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to start on March 29, 2020, but the edition postponed to an indefinite period by the BCCI. The International Cricket Council (ICC) hosted a key meeting on Thursday, 28 May 2020 with cricket boards over the future of 2020 ICC World Twenty20. Another fact that has been widely reported is the showpiece event might get shifted to 2022. This will potentially increase the opportunity for IPL to be held later this year.
Australian paceman Pat Cummins, who got auctioned at a whopping price of 15.5 million by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), stated that it could be great if IPL can be held this year as millions of fan will have something worth to watch.
