However, the recent and sudden development in the COVID-19 had a severe effect on this series. The series which was supposed to start on the 29th of March, 2020 was suspended due to the effect of COVID-19. The planned series across the sports calendar had a severe impact due to the COVID-19. The CEO of Delhi Capitals, Dhiraj Malhotra, had told the media that the series must take place as it will send a positive signal to the society that it is returning to normalcy. Also, there will be a huge loss if this series does not take place. Also, the major share for this series comes from the BCCI and the franchise will only lose around 20% to 25%.
Also, the CEO of Pro Volleyball League Joy Bhattacharjya expressed his views on the event to take place, and considered this series as a “big event”. He said that the money invested for this series can be placed on the safety standards that will ensure the protection of all the people during the series. So focus can be first placed on this big event and slowly move down to the other low events that have to take place.
The Indian head coach, Ravi Shastri also focused on his opinion on the IPL series to take place. He said that the IPL series can take place in a city or two where the COVID-19 situation is better off and the city is also in the green zone. By playing in a city or two, his opinion was that the logistics will be easier to manage with fewer expenses.
He also expressed his views on other ICC series, stating that the matches can take place with them being played on those grounds that are present in those areas that are less affected by the COVID-19.
Arun Dhumal, the treasurer of BCCI expressed his views in this pandemic series stating that the Indian Cricket Board will not postpone the T20 World Cup series that will be held in Australia. The series will be conducted during October and November. However, the travel across the globe for this series across various countries is a concern for the BCCI.
